I received my BSE degree from the University of Arkansas at Monicello and my Master of Education degree from the University of North Florida. I began teaching when I was 19. I have taught 2^nd, 4^th, and 5^th grades in elementary school and 7-12 grades at the middle school and high school level.

I was a Dean of Students for 5 years at Orange Park High School, Assistant Principal at Tifton High School for 3 years, and Assistant Principal once again at Buddy Taylor Middle School for 1½ years. I became Principal of Bunnell Elementary School in 1983. I was principal of Wadsworth Elementary School when it opened and then went to Indian Trails as Principal in 1996. I retired in 2004, but came out of retirement to become Principal of Flagler Palm Coast High School.
